Outstation taxi pricing in Tamil Nadu follows a fairly standard structure. Once you understand the components, comparing quotes becomes easy and end-of-trip surprises disappear.
The building blocks
- Per-km rate — varies by car: a sedan is cheapest, an Innova Crysta the most. This is the bulk of the fare.
- Driver bata — a daily allowance for the driver's food and time, higher for overnight trips.
- Night halt — an additional allowance when the driver stays overnight away from base.
- Tolls and parking — pass-through charges, ideally itemised on your quote.
- Interstate permit — needed when a Tamil Nadu car enters Kerala or Karnataka.
One-way vs round-trip billing
A round trip bills the total distance both ways. A one-way drop bills a single direction plus a one-way bata — much cheaper if you aren't returning. Most quotes also apply a minimum billed distance (around 130 km for cars).
